Aadhaar-PAN linking Last Date, Aadhaar-PAN linking Deadline
The Central Board of Direct Taxes on Tuesday extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar card with Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards, in an official order. The earlier deadline for the linking was March 31, but with the Supreme Court’s decision to defer the deadline, the date for linking PAN with Aadhaar has been moved to June 30.
The official statement said: “Vide its order dated 31.07.17, 31.08.17 & 08.12.17, in file of even number, CBDT had allowed time till 31st March, 2018 to link PAN with Aadhaar while filing tax returns. Upon consideration of the matter, the CBDT, further extends the time for linking PAN with Aadhaar till 30th June, 2018.”
Earlier this month, the top court had extended the deadline for linking various services with Aadhaar as long as a verdict is not pronounced in the matter. The government also shared the same view at the time, saying that the matter needs to have clarity to have any positive impact.
Meanwhile, the top court today raised concerns over the misuse of Aadhaar data by private authentication users agencies (AUAs). “Private Authentication User Agencies can misuse Aadhaar data,” it said, adding that AUA records all authentication requests even if UIDAI does not.
Apart from that, the UIDAI is trying its best to reduce any threats related to Aadhaar. Just a few days ago, it announced the introduction of face authentication feature from July 1
The UIDAI, which is in-charge of the 12-digit identifier Aadhaar, in January had announced that it will introduce face authentication feature to help those who run into problems in biometric authentication due to old age, hard work or worn-out fingerprints.
It had said that face authentication will be allowed only in fusion mode meaning it would be permitted along with either fingerprint or iris or OTP to verify the details of Aadhaar holders.
