The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) seized three shutters of famous Paradise Hotel located at Secunderabad on account of fire accident took place at the takeaway section of the restaurant’s old block, following which the civic body seized the three shutters there.
After inspecting, the entire block comprising four floors, was seized and similar action was being initiated against the adjoining new block that is spread over five floors.
Assistant Medical Officer of Health Sudheer Prasad said the hotel has a small kitchen in the takeaway section where the fire broke out, and inspections by the fire safety wing revealed lack of safety measures.
“We had immediately seized three shutters there following the mishap and after scrutiny today, the entire block was seized,” he said. Action was planned against the new block too but since there were many customers, some more time was allowed, Dr. Sudheer said.
The hotel did not have sprinklers or adequate entry and exit space in case of an emergency, said P. Venkataramana, Additional Director, Fire Prevention wing.
“They have some inbuilt fire safety systems but they are not as per guidelines. With each floor having a seating capacity of more than 150 persons, the exit facility is not sufficient in case of emergencies,” he said.
Moreover, as against the prescribed 200 kg cooking gas bank, the restaurant had been maintaining around 3,400 kg, that too on the fifth floor, Mr. Venkatarama said.
